Modeling vapor - liquid equilibria of kraft pulp mill condensates containing methanol, turpentine and total reduced sulphur (TRS) components

Abstract
A model was developed for simulation of the vapor-liquid balance of kraft pulp mill condensates using UNIQUAC model. Equilibrium data were obtained from literature and the developed model was used for analysis of the liquid and vapor phases. The developed model was used to simulate a foul condensate tank assuming a vapor phase and one liquid phase condition. It was found that methanol concentration in the liquid feed greatly affects the alpha-pinene equilibrium. The equilibrium model predicts very high vapor concentrations for alpha-pinene in the usual temperature range 60-70C for kraft foul condensate.
